Cassie Tian

Cassie Tian (she/her/hers) is a rising senior studying Applied Psychology at New York University. She is interested in the topics of human development in society, East Asian mental health, and women’s empowerment. As an intern, Cassie worked under the supervision of Dr. Sabrina Hermosilla. She helped the Sanctuary Institute establish standard indicators to assess the Sanctuary Model – a trauma-informed model designed for organizational change. As part of this project, she conducted Situational Analysis, summarized the indicators previously used to evaluate the Sanctuary Model and created flow charts for the Sanctuary Certification Process. For Scientific Review of the Field, she refined search terms and synthesized the information from articles related with organizational change in the healthcare industry. With guidance from her team, Cassie gained experience creating Scientific Reviews and literature summaries, and explored the concept of organizational psychology. By learning from the Sanctuary Model, she also gained systematic knowledge on whether an organization is trauma-informed, and how to enhance mental health on an organizational level.

Outside of the Sanctuary Project, Cassie is very grateful to have attended daily seminars provided by the program, where she learned from the expertise of professionals in fields of psychology, public health, and social work. Through the Intern Celebratory Project Tasks and Journal Clubs, she gained valuable opportunities to network with peers and scholars. By participating in this program, Cassie expanded her horizons on understanding healthcare from a global perspective, and she looks forward to carrying these lessons forward in her future endeavors in the field of mental health.
