Bishoy Ibrahim

Bishoy Ibrahim is a rising senior at Harvard University, where he is pursuing a degree in Neuroscience with minors in Spanish and Global Health and Health Policy. Born in Cairo, Bishoy and his family immigrated to the United States in 2005. Witnessing the community interventions that facilitated his family’s assimilation, alongside the influence of leading biomedical scientists, ignited his passion for the intersections of medicine and public health. His interests are focused on using policy to reduce health disparities, a cause that resonates deeply with his own experiences as an immigrant.

This summer, Bishoy worked under the supervision of Professor Alissa Davis at the Columbia University School of Social Work, contributing to the JasSpark study. His primary responsibility was to conduct an ex post facto analysis of data originating from an HIV stigma study. In this analysis, he identified significant covariates related to the study’s parallel scale assessing mental health stigma. This work required a deep understanding of various statistical checks and tests, as well as fluency in R. Upon completing the analysis, Bishoy collaborated with Dr. Sara Landers to write a manuscript that contextualizes the findings.

Bishoy is grateful for the autonomy he had to direct his project this summer and recognizes the immense opportunities to advance work in critical areas such as mental health. He is excited to continue collaborating with Professor Davis and Dr. Landers to get their manuscript published, with plans to submit it to the Stigma and Health journal through the American Psychological Association.
