Milton Wainberg is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute, Director of the Mental Wellness Equity Center, Director of Global Mental Health Implementation Research, Medical Director of the Columbia University HIV Mental Health Training Project, Director and Co-Director of several NIMH-funded programs, as well as Co-Director of the Division of Translational Epidemiology and Mental Health Equity and Equity and Social Determinants Core (Equity Core) of the Columbia University HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies. 

Dr. Wainberg’s scientific expertise lies in translating research into practice at scale through reciprocal innovations, community and policymakers-participatory research, and technology to address multimorbidities across diverse systems of care in the US, Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South America. Additionally, he is dedicated to training the next generation of implementation scientists both domestically and internationally to bridge research, mental health, and substance use prevention and treatment gaps, reduce the burden of mental illness, and achieve equality. 

Dr. Wainberg has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Psychiatry Residency Training Award for Clinical Excellence, the AMA/Burroughs Wellcome Award for Outstanding Leadership in Community Service, the Humanism in Psychiatry Award, the Columbia Psychiatry Founding Chair of the Caucus on Global Mental Health & Psychiatry by the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Psychiatric Association Senior Researcher Award in 2024.
