Jeremy Kane, PhD

Jeremy Kane is a psychiatric epidemiologist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. In past years, Dr. Kane has worked as a Consultant for the United Nations Office on Drug Use and Crime. He has extensive training and experience in epidemiologic methods, including randomized controlled trials and hybrid implementation study designs, longitudinal data analysis, and complex survey design. Additionally, he is proficient in psychometrics and mental and behavioral health measurement methods, with specific knowledge in alcohol and substance use epidemiology and global mental health.

Dr. Kane’s research investigates mental health, alcohol, and substance use problems among vulnerable populations globally, including persons living with HIV and other infectious diseases, displaced persons and violence-affected populations. His global research program is centered on advancing collaborations with academic institutions, NGO’s, international organizations, and government agencies in an effort to elucidate: 1) the types, patterns, and variations of mental health problems among these populations, including measuring comorbidity, 2) appropriate methods for reliable and valid measurement of psychiatric disorders cross-culturally, and 3) developing, testing, and implementing evidence-based intervention strategies among underserved populations.
