Emmanuel Kiiza Mwesiga is a psychiatrist and senior lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at Makerere University, Uganda. He obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He was supervised by Prof. Dan Stein, an alumnus of Columbia University. Dr. Mwesiga has an interest in preventive psychiatry, including the development of evidence-based, culturally appropriate interventions for patients with severe mental illness early in the course of the illness. For his doctoral thesis, he collaborated with faculty at Columbia University to validate a smartphone application for neuropsychological assessment in Ugandan patients with psychotic disorders. Currently, he is working with the CU-WHO Center for GMH to validate the ICD-11-based diagnostic instrument for use in rural Uganda.
